I am Fredrik Boström, born in February 1980 in Jakobstad, Finland and resident in Helsinki since 2001. I’m currently working as an assistant researcher at Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT at the Department of Computer Science (University of Helsinki). Our work focuses on adaptive computing, context-awareness and ad hoc sensor networks. My work currently involves androMedia – a context-aware mobile music recommender, Capricorn – an intelligent interface for mobile widgets and Massive – an adaptive shopping assistant.

Interests
Except for computers and other geeky stuff, I’ve always been interested in the outdoors. As a former boy scout I’m still trying to maintain some degree of outback activity in my life. Before my knee got sore I used to hike in the Swedish mountains about once a year, but nowadays I stick to biking and climbing.
Since early years, I’ve been interested in cooking, mixing drinks and hosting parties. This interest led to a job as a bartender both in London 2001 and in my student’s association in 2003. I also co-hosted the 168th Porthan gala in November 2007 and has thrown numerous parties in different locations among friends.
Photography is also becoming a bigger part of my spare time activities, especially since I bought my Canon D30 from a friend of mine. Thus far I’m only shooting for fun, but I’d like to develope skills to be able to do some commercial gigs as well.
